I want to install a two rivet nuts so I can put my new door pull handles on. The threads for the door pull bolts are totally damaged…
The top rivet nut won’t be a problem. But before I can install the bottom rivet nut, I will have to cut some sheet metal away (see white square on picture).
1.Does this sheet metal area has a function? Will there be any problems afterwards when I cut that area away?
2.Will have to loosen one bolt (red arrow in pic) to add the bottom rivet nut. What is the function of this bolt?
It has been a while since I had door panel off but if I remember correctly the bolt is to hold window regulator in place , also could be for adjustment . DO NOT cut sheet metal . You can loosen/remove bolt as long as you leave others tight.

If it's really a problem, I won't cut the sheet metal. What would be the reason of not cutting the sheet metal (white square)?
If that bolt is for adjusting cutting the sheet medal would not give enough support to the bolt . First try loosening removing bolt to see if its for adjusting .
