80 was the last year with no computers, but was the first year with an electric choke (1 wire).
81 had a one-year-only computer that partially controlled the carb and distributor/timing.
82 had Crossfire EFI, so yes, a computer.
Actually, the '81 system was a 'complete' system, with computer controlled fuel mixture (via the 1-year only carb) and timing (via 1-year only distributor), throttle position sensor, oxygen sensor, etc. But, it was unique with no other model year sharing any parts. The '81 system also controlled lockup function in the auto transmission via the computer.
I thought i read that some California Vettes got the CCC (Computer Command System) that was put into all 81's. I'm fairly sure that was the case with Camaros at least, as I owned an 81 Z28 and remember reading that 20 years ago when I owned it.
I will add 1.5 cents...each of the computers are a little different.
1981 computer is stand-alone for the model year. Not sure of the standard transmission/automatic difference, if any.
1982 only has the computer for automatic since only automatic transmissions were produced.
1984 (C4) automatic tranny computer will work in a 1982. The 1984 manual tranny computer will not run properly in a 1982.

Reason: fix
One of my favorite quotes from Corvette Black Book....capable of making 80 adjustments a second compared to 10 in 1981. The 1982 was truly ahead of it's time.

Depends on what a definition of computer is, 1974 is the last year of no electronic anything, ignition, light dimmers, cruise control, hvac. no automatic anything, no emissions, last year of true factory duel exhaust

I'm glad to know all this. I thought there was something wrong with our '68 because often when I return from a drive my wife tells me she didn't get the 'OnStar report' from 'The Beast'.
