1975 stingray had factory air conditioning. Original engine was replaced with a chevy 350/357. The previous owner said that the air conditioning had died and most of the parts & Electrical have been removed. I would like to re -install air conditioning . I know they sell kits, but was wondering if I would be able to install it if the engine is not the original one. The only thing that I can see that is different is that the radiator is on a slant and not straight as it was with the original engine. Will the kit work, what modification would I have to do. Someone told me that you can not re-install air conditioning because it is not the original engine, is this true?
You can find the parts that you need if you would like to go back to factory stock. The radiator is tilted back from the factory. There is no straight up installation as there is in most other cars.
A PO of my non AC '73 installed a Vintage Air on my car/works great. The fan switch is in the original position I think (fwd center of center console). Only thing I'm not sure about are the two thumb wheels. Do these wheels operate anything after Vintage Air install? Doesn't get cold here in central FL so I've had to reason to fool with them (if it ain't broke don't fix it).
I replaced the factory air conditioning system on a 79, all factory replacement parts. I didn't expect it to work as good as a modern car but I was pleasantly surprised at its performance. Works great on the highway but starts to struggle a little if stuck in stop and go traffic on a hot day. Hopefully works even better when I get the windows tinted next summer (that huge back window lets in a TON of sun and heat)
