Considering replacing the steering wheel as it’s just too large and tight against the lap. Want to stay with original corvette, but without power steering need to stay 16” or possibly 15”. Hoping to be able to decrease offset to gain room.
The 1963-1966 steering wheel is 16”, but what is the offset difference? I realize a spacer would be need for the bottom spoke difference.
What steering wheel are my 1968 brothers/sisters using to gain some lap space?
Thanks for the replies. Wanted to stay original in terms of a corvette steering wheel and was hoping the 63-66 wheel which is the same 16” was a lesser offset and others found it to provide improved leg room.
That said, the 69 wheel is 15”, but not sure of its offset. Has anyone used a 69 in a 68 and what was the result?
Did they make a wood wheel in 69?
This is the first item that I changed on my four year old 68 coupe after I bought it. The original plastic wheel is a carry over of the 67 wheel. The seating position is different in the 68's and the 67 ,oops, 68 wheel will kill your right thigh getting into the car.
Corvette Central makes a beautiful reproduction 69-up wheel. I have one. Lou.
Original is hanging on the wall, went with this from ecklers and found a new old Kustom Krime **** to match on eBay. Big improvement the seating position was wrong for the 16” wheel
