Default Odd stamp pad

For the stamp pad aficionados...

What do you make of this stamp pad?
Wondering how the GW became so misaligned...

IMHO, I think the stamp pad is legitimate.

From the owner:
"When they stamped the engine pads years ago, they used a Gang Holder, which held 6 characters in place. The last two characters were stamped separately and individually. When ever I see a pad that is stamped with all of the digits perfectly across, I become very suspicious. Most of the restamped motors done today are stamped by people who buy kits at Home Depot, or pay someone professionally to do so. You can clearly see the factory Broach Marks on this pad. I had this pad checked by several NCRS and Bloomington Gold judges before I purchased it 8 years ago, and they all agreed it was 100% original."

Here’s one I found online for comparison.

hard to believe this car sold for 43 on BAT with that stamp.. all you gotta say is matching numbers and the bidding war starts
, even with this excuse of a stamp...

Of the many 1969 stamps I have seen, many times the LL for the 390hp automatics are almost always misaligned. The last L is very often much lower and sideways, which happens to be the 7th digit. On the 70 it’s the 7 and 8th that are off but they are in line with each other. I just don’t know, but the vin stamp part looks good. Correct fonts.

I tend to believe it is legit, just looks strange. If it were a forgery I doubt the forger would be that sloppy, misalign the last two characters only...

I also think is a good stamp as other fonts look like normal factory. Has anyone else noticed the inverted "8". Wonder if anyone has another photo of a stamp on the 28th of the month if the 8 is the same that would verify it.

Looks like the last two letters in the engine code have been restamped....and I doubt it was the factory that did so. Maybe an owner thought they were 'enhancing' a faint stamping of those letters; maybe the engine was a replacement that the owner wanted to 'appear' as original. Hard to know. The quality of the restamp is so poorly done that I doubt the owner was trying to fool anyone with it. Just a misguided effort at 'refurbishment', perhaps.

I have found on engines late in the build cycle to not have the last two digits stamped... why? so they could be used for different applications.

I also believe the Stamp Pad is legit. This 70 LS5 was Sold by a Forum member. PJO just noticed the inverted 8 I have lots of Pics of 70 LS5 Stamp Pads on my iPad have to look through them.
