Hey guys,
I have a 1973 with a 454 with AC and Power steering and a left side alternator mount. The mount measures 7.5 inches between the mounting bolts.. however every alternator im finding for this car only measures 6.5 inches. The previous owner had a chrome alternator on this car but it doesn't have any model numbers or anything on it. Does anyone know what alternator I need? No one lists the mounting bolt widths on the specs.
Someone has definitely changed something then
The proper alt is like you found a 6.6" 10SI/12SI case and even the CS130 used the same size
The closest thing I know of to 7.5 would be a CS144 which is about 7-1/4"

Thanks. I know the block isn't original and it has a ton of upgrades (heads, intake, cam, headers etc...). The alternator bracket goes beneath the alternator rather than over the top like others I've seen. I had to replace the bracket as it was cracked. I only found it at corvette mods of all places.. You can see the bracket in the pic here

The BB bracket goes underneath like you have there, the A/C bracket looks aftermarket
I'd guess something is changed/bent if the spacing is 7+ inches. I had to extend mine when I changed to the CS144

The AC is vintage air. The alternator bracket is brand new and was a direct replacement for what was there. It does have headers and aftermarket edelbrock heads.

Which is kind of odd since a "new" one should fit the smaller original 6.6". I've not seen one that fits the CS144 except those that people have made (like mine there)
Where did you get it?

Again, strange that it's that big.
Anyway, make sure you keep the pulley from the old alt, the groove location is out farther since it's driven off the PS pulley instead of the engine/waterpump
