Default Hood alignment problem

Any idea why the pass side of my hood is too high? Ive adjusted the pin so its at the lowest it can go and still latch but its still too high, all other alignment is perfect. You cant press the hood down any further I’ve not found any other posts about this before, only to do with the nose being too low.

Stupid question but I'm guessing you've ruled out the stop for the hood as well as the latch pin

If you take the stop and the latch completely off will the hood go down below flush?

Assuming it's not the hood itself being made wrong/warped is it running into something else, especially since it's a long hood. Try removing the latch pin and the stop pad and see if it's not running into something else, maybe even the air cleaner

Removed the air cleaner and the rubber bumper but no difference. Upon removing the striker assembly the hood will press down around 1cm below the fender tip as shown in the pics

So the next question would be is the top of the bullet bottoming out inside the latch or is the spring loaded ring fully compressing and not allowing it down farther
The 68/69 had a different bullet (I think) than the 70+, any chance you've got a mis-matched bullet / latch?
If you remove the bullet and leave the spring & ring balanced in place (maybe tape) that might allow you to see if it's the spring or bullet itself?

What year is the car and was that hood ever on that car?

The car is a 71, didn't have a hood when I bought it and I have no idea what year this hood is from. Here is a pic of the striker assembly, you can see how compressed the spring is. I have a feeling it's an issue of the spring compressing and not the striker bottoming out but will investigate and confirm.

"Looks" like the right one for the 70+
You can try the bullet without the spring or the spring without the bullet to see where the interference is

When the pin is removed and only the spring is present the hood will not push down low enough. So it’s not the striker bottoming out. How on earth do I fix that?

That seems to indicate a problem with either the hood or the firewall where the latch mounts, i'd guess the hood.
I'll look at mine tonight and see if there is something to measure off anywhere so you can compare. Maybe check the height of the compressed spring vs the drivers side and see of there's anything obvious

See if any of these help at all, these are all on my 72

Latch looks like this

Top of my spring plate is pretty much level with the underside of the side of the fender lip

Top side of the spring plate is a tiny bit more than 1/2" under the lip where the wall into the wiper trough is

Latch is not quite 5/8" deep to where the ruler hits the fiberglass that is the outer skin

Latch side by the fender is about 1/2"

Hood is notched down where the latch is locate

Not sure if there is anything else I can measure for you but if there is let me know

Looks like an aftermarket hood. Problem is probably with the hood being out of true.
