Hello Brian,
To paint the car out by where we live, it’s going to be well over 10k, closer to $15k. Going back to black will absolutely increase its value. But if you plan on keeping the car while, drive it now and just enjoy it. Get your paint chips in now. Repaint it in the future.

As for the production being 708? Nobody knows what color production was in 1969. GM did not keep those records for that year. But whatever the production was, it’s highly desirable, and the most often faked trim tag color.

What kinds of documents do you have on the car?

Ed

Ed is correct, GM did not keep records for 69. There were only 715 Tuxedo black cars in 1967, 708 in 1968 and I would estimate around 900 in 69. It makes it a low production color and the most desirable in todays market.

A friend of mine has 2 1969 Corvettes Tuxedo Black one coupe 350/350, Red Leather and Side Pipes. Plus 1 Convertible 350/350, Black Leather and Side Pipes. The coupe is a very rare combo with Red Leather.

There are a few people making repo tags out there, you can do a simple google search. Just know that none of them are correct and can be spotted very easily. If you put a repo tag on your car then decide to sell it down the line then I would advertise the fact that it has a repo trim tag and make the buyer sign a notarized letter that the car is being sold with a replacement trim tag. Otherwise it could back to bite you legally.

I cannot for the life of me see the "line in the tag" to me it looks like the tag has not been replaced as the rivets appear original, and the masking reveals black paint on the edges. It seems to me the tag has been there since day "0"...am I missing something?

Agreed. $10k is a good starting point, until something else is needed. And something else is always needed.

And a little red overspray on the bottom of the tag.

If you close at the edge of both rivet there is a scratch line as if the head has spun. This is usually caused by the rivet head being drilled out it spinning and scratching the plates surface. Also from the photo the heads of those rivets seem to be taller then originals but would have to see it person to be sure. Now I am not saying the trim plate is fake just that it has possible been removed and reinstalled.
