I have an early 69 convertible,(#737). This car has black non-retractable lap belts. I would like to add shoulder belts. The male part of the lap belt looks like it was made to be used with a shoulder belt. I have had this car for 40 years and it did not come to me with shoulder belts. I would like to just add the original type shoulder belts to what I have if that is possible, but I am open to suggestions. I would like to hear what others have done.
If you can find a used shoulder belt set for '69-72 with hardware in good condition, just buy so new black belt webbing and have someone with a commercial-grade stitching machine over-sew the new webbing onto the cut stub (about 4-5") at the retractor. Perfectly safe, easy to do, and it won't cost "an arm & a leg".
69' shoulder belts are a 1 year only design. The attachment stud is on the shoulder belt latch, 70-72 have the attachment stud on the lap belt latch.

I have a 68 and of course they are whacky but I used an aftermarket 70 style belt that seperates at the buckle. THe original 68 had a retractable seat belt but the repos did not , so I bought a seat belt extender that bolted to the floor and bolted to the new lap belt. The shoulder belt hole was there and had a plug in it so your car should too. I bolted the retractable part to the OEM posittion. My year had vertical mounting and later years had horizontal mounting and it matters for the locking pawl so figure out which ones you need. You will also have to buy the 69 shoulder strap holder that screws to the side of the seat so the belt doesnt slide down off your shoulder or worse, up to your neck.
