Default Body Dolly Over Frame

After a long hiatus on my '73 body off project, I want to get back to stripping down the frame. Ideally, I'd like to store the body over the frame when not working on it.

Has anyone extended the standard body dolly design long enough to roll it back over the frame when you're not working on it? Any pictures if so?

I can suggest this. If you have a decent hight ceiling in your garage, you can consider this. Buy a gantry crane and use body lift straps and lift it up in the air high enough to roll your chassis under it. Good luck, Terr

Thanks for the suggestion. That's a great idea, but I'm not sure it would work. I'd like to roll the body, not the chassis. It specifically says you can't roll it under load. The chassis doesn't have wheels attached and won't for a little while. It would be better to slide the body sideways off the chassis. That's ideal, at least.

If you find a way to do this, let me know. I am looking to take the body off my 68, and my neighbor want to use his front end loader tractor. But I was considering making my own lifting jig out of lumber, but haven’t settled on anything yet. I did build the body dolly already, though.

The one I have could be rolled, it is super heavy duty. Hanging a body from it is nothing. I could probably hang a car from it. Good luck with your project! Terr

Thats a better price than harbor freight. I just compared the 2 and the harbor freight on is beefier and has a hand crank for the telescoping feature

Can you suspend it and cover it in painters plastic then work on the frame underneath it, no rolling necessary?

I'm not sure it would be wise to ever work under a load like that. I wouldn't trust putting myself under the body without a solid frame supporting it, not suspended.

I built this one in a 9.5 ft garage. I used it to both lift the body and store it in the air. The normal rolling wheel body dolly is bolted to the lift/storage frame. It is high enough for the completed chassis to roll underneath and clear the gas tank. Two chain fall hoists do the lifting.
