This ’68 427 / 400 tri power has come up for sale so I had a trip to London yesterday to check it out for a possible purchase. It appears on the C3 registry and the info on there matches what the owner told me before I checked out the registry that it had a restoration in 2004 prior to achieving an NCRS Top Flight followed by corrective works ($23k) on the areas it lost points on. It was then bought by the current owner who had it judged a second time here in the UK last year and secured a score of 97.4 I know little about ’68 apart from the helpful list of one year only items here on the forum so I would appreciate any feedback good or bad from those more familiar with these models. The rain was biblical yesterday so I didn’t get to drive it but it started with ease, oil pressure was great, didn’t run too hot, no excessive smoke, purred along quite happily. No visible signs of nose bumps, windscreen frame bubbling, rust in the doors and while it sat outside in the rain nothing leaked inside. Gaps all seem correct and tight and there was no signs of any previous body repairs. There is a small scratch slap bang in the middle above the front bumper where he rolled it into a wooden work bench but he’s having this repaired and painted. AC blows cold, lights work as they should and the clock works! He’s using some solvent on the pad today so I expect pics of that soon but it does all seems to stack up as born with motor and trans.
I wouldn’t be interested at his current asking price but he does seem eager to deal as he needs it gone to make room for his Pantera and Cobra.
It currently has new RWL on there but the red lines shown are in with the deal. Tank sticker is good and readable and a good stack of paper work which I only checked out very briefly.
Thanks for any input good or bad and wishing our Corvette brothers & sisters a very happy Christmas
You have to remember, these things are like hens teeth over here... Lots of Corvettes about and it seems that more and more are being shipped in everyday but I would consider this one to be pretty special and a potentially sound investment opportunity..
Not that that is my primary thought but is helpful to get 'spousal' approval
could you tell us what he's asking for it in round a bought numbers
£60k or best offer. He has a valuation of £80k from a renowned Corvette specialist here in the UK but is being reasonably sensible with his price. I'd likely be selling my yellow LT-1 to free up room & ££
Looks like a really nice car! Here is a past listing: https://www.grautogallery.com/vehicl...rolet-corvette I would get the judging sheets and clean pictures of the engine stamp pad. If my math is good £60k equates to $81k us dollars for the car. If that is the case the car is priced too high IMHO. That car is in the $60k range tops in the current US market.

Thank you DKM that is a fantastic find!
I agree his price / valuation is too high and I think he knows that as he mentioned 'make me an offer' several times. I think I'll do that via phone call if I get to that point rather than face-to-face as he's a big unit and former pro rugby player! I know the NCRS judge that was head of judging this car so I've reached out to him to see what he has to say but he marked it at 97.4 so he must be pretty keen on it.
At that price, you are not planning on that car being a 'driver' vehicle....right? Looks like something that should be in a personal collection....
I have a mate who owns a 1974 Corvette and he's always bleating on that he can't come to this show or that cruise as he's worried about accumulating mileage. Silly old fart..
When I bought my red LT-1 right here on the forum in 2015 it had a documented 45k miles and is a top flight. It's now over 70k miles and I drive it every chance I get. If I were to snag the '68 it'll be no different albeit it would share the mileage with red.
When I'm dead & gone it'll be the kids problem and I won't be thinking I should have kept the miles down.
Thanks for giving us the price, reason I asked is that i am frame off restoring a 68, L-68 roadster california car same color combo
just looking at various values of the L-68s, some people on here like to devalue these cars alone with other things. 427 tripowers are
rare IMHO. and one of the coolest looking engines in a corvette,

No problem.
He sent me all the judging sheets yesterday but the quality is such that they can't be read and I'm still waiting on better stamp pad pics. I'm happy to wait it out a bit and make him sweat to hopefully get it nearer to a cost I'd be more comfortable with (and can afford ) and based on the fantastic pics included at the link by DKM-106 above my main bargaining tool will be getting the engine bay back to the standard it was just two years ago will take a lot of work.
My yellow LT-1 was a Cali car from Harry Mann Chevy. Have you got a thread on the work you're doing to your L-68?
Glad you have the means to make great 'driver' cars from 'garage queens'! Wish I could too, I guess. But, my pockets aren't that deep. I'm sure you will keep them in really good condition, none the less. Best of luck to you..
P.S. Wish you a Merry Christmas & a great New Year....
