Default Help me out

I bought 1971 base model corvette which has a 350-270hp motor. Is there a way to tell if this is the original motor? What got me thinking is that the 270hp base motor has the orange matching rocker covers and mine has the ribbed rocker covers that came on the 330hp motor. I'm guessing that the rocker covers were just changed. Thanks

look at the engine pad in front of the passenger side cylinder head for the engine code and partial VIN that should match your VIN..
Here is a link to the 1971 codes

By the way the valve covers are on the wrong side the oil fill should be on the drivers side toward the rear of the engine

What is the redline tach in the car? Also I would post a picture of the engine stamp pad.

Thanks. Engine pad did have the CJL stamp so it is the base motor. The valve covers were changed then. Not sure why they are reversed though and the fill cap is on the wrong side as stated in a comment above. Don't think it matters though. When i get to it i want to replace the gaskets and i will turn them around.

Maybe the previous owner installed the valve covers that way because it was easier access to fill oil on the other side. Notice the PB hose is directly over the emblem where the fill hole/cap would be. Seen it done before.

Do you have a picture of how the heater hose should run?

There should be a loop bracket under the pulley A/C compressor that both hoses go through

Indeed. I wondered why I had them 'backwards' on mine. I found out when I 'corrected' them.

Nice.

If this sort of attention to original detail is important to you, I highly recommend you get both the '71 Assembly Instruction Manual (~$25, Willcox has a digital download or you can buy a paper version) and the NCRS '70-'72 Technical Information and Judging Guide (~$75 https://www.ncrs.org/shop/index.php?...roducts_id=217). The AIM shows you all the fasteners, assembly line parts & #s, etc. in illustrated format. These were made by Chevrolet for assembly line workers for training and instruction. The TIJG tells owners about proper parts, fasteners, finishes, etc. as original to the cars and options.

Here's a pic from the forum showing the routing: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ater-hose.html
