Default Dui distributors

So while trying to improve upon my 75s hp I read about Lars' distributor recurve. I pulled the cover and found 8 have a Dui distributor installed, nice surprise, everything I've read says they come curved from the factory. So my question is do these need to be recurve?

They do come curved from DUI, but you should have the curve checked yourself to know what it is. They custom curve it for the customer when it is bought. (I have one customed to my specs). If you can find the customer/distributor ID number on the distributor, call DUI. They have records on file, providing the previous owner didn't change anything.

They engrave the specs on the base. You have to remove the distributor to see it though.

An excellent curve and setup. Make sure your vacuum advance control unit meets the "2-inch rule" and that it is limited to no more than 12 degrees.

What carb is it? Q-Jets and Edelbrocks will lean out enough for altitude, to a point, but Holley's always have to be jetted.....

Edelbrock if I remember correctly. I'll have to check. One car has the Edelbrock, the other has a carter iirc.

If you have two inches or less, don’t be bragging.

Same thing really besides the edelbrock being alumium. The edelbrock is just a carter replica. Even made from the old carter molds overseas and then assembled in the US from what Ive read.

FWIW, the 2" rule is basically that the vac can should pull all the way in using 2" of vacuum less than the car produces at idle. So if the car is making 14" of manifold vac at idle, the can should be fully pulled in using 12" of vacuum
Otherwise it could be hunting around at idle if it was still pulling at or around 14" type of thing

Thank you Mooser!

I am fixing to order a DUI w/ cross fire cap, so I have been reading reviews. One guy on another board says the DUI HEI does not have a tach connection? I assume he is FOS. Can you guys confirm?
For me, this will be going in a '79 Camaro with a factory tach (not mechanical).

I can't imagine it not having the electronic tach output but DUI would be the ones to confirm it with. The other thing I believe is that if you buy it from them they will curve it based on what you tell them the motor is but if you buy from summit/jegs/etc you get the "one size fits all curve" not sure if that matters to you or not

FOS.....and think about it, WYF would one do if it didn't? Crank trigger sensor? Nobody would buy the damn things without a tach output......
