I just installed a new high torque mini starter on my 81 project Vette. The install was easy and made a huge difference. Before I could barely get her to turn over. Now she turns over and starts like a normal car. It was also nice to have help from my daughters boyfriend and be able to teach a younger generation how to work on cars.
Did you clean the cable terminals and/or replace any connectors or cable while doing this repair? It is possible for the actual starter unit to fail...usually because of worn out electrical brushes. The starter solenoid can also be the 'root cause' of such issues. Most often the issue is electrical wiring/connectors on power or grounding side of the system.

Yes all connections where clean and I had already installed a remote starter solenoid. The old starter would also heat soak and not turn over at all after driving for a while.
Now if I could just get back into the bodywork and get her back on the road.
