Default Interior Question 73 Vette

I'm going to start installing the insulation and carpet. The dimmer pedal is currently removed due to broken rivets. My question is, should I install the dimmer pedal now, or after the insulation? Is the carpet pre-cut to fit over the pedal after it's installed? It's been a while since I purchased the carpet, but I thing it's from ACC.

Install the dimmer switch. The carpet fits over it.

The carpet does go over the dimmer on my 73.
I felt really stupid when I first bought it and sat in the drivers seat in my garage trying to figure out where the dimmer was.
Actually had to break out the owners manual.

Thanks for the input folks, and that brings me to another question.

Is the carpet also already cut to fit in other places, like the console bracket, and the rubber plugs that hold it to the firewall?

No holes are cut for anything. You will have to fit the carpet pieces into their respective locations, then trim, make holes for all items like seat belts, seats, door thresholds, and etc. my advice is to spend a good amount of time various “How to articles.” Willcox has a good one to start with, plus plenty of information from Forum Members. There are many tips that make the job easier and look like a professional install. Make small cuts, use scratch awls to locate holes, then use a soldering iron (pointed one) to make holes so the carpet will not have runs. Another good trick is to let the carpet sit in the hot car during the day so it becomes more pliable. Good luck, and don’t be in a hurry or you won’t be pleased with the outcome. You have to purchase the plugs for the front fire wall, rear trunk wall and floor plugs if yours are missing.
