73 tach not working..
I just got this 73. curious why tach not working. The engine was replaced at some point with newer engine as it was painted blue. I noticed tach not working. Have not driven down road yet so not sure on speedo. Did 73 ( 350) auto use electric tach or mechanical? The speedo should have nothing to do with engine swap as it goes to trans right?

If you say the engine was replaced, then there is a chance the distributor is not a mechanical tach drive distributor. So that would be the first thing to look for. Does your distributor have the tach drive output port on the distributor base.
If it does not, then that is one reason for your distributor not working. If it does, then look, for the cable from the distributor to the firewall/tachometer. If there is a cable, you can disconnect it and spin the cable to see if the tach moves.
If the tach moves, then the problem may be with the helical gear inside the distributor. That can get stripped and is another reason for your tach to be not working.
