Default Wiring mystery

Trying to figure out why this was done and what wires these control. I have been reviewing several diagrams including one from Wilcox and its just not clear. I requested some other copied from member "papawana". If anyone has any ideas I would approciate it.

Thanks, Mike Jones

Only a guess here Mike, but maybe this plug went bad and a previous owner hard wired that connection.

I agree with interpon, remove the tape and see what's there.
Cheers, Greg

It’s a 1978 L82 silver anniversary automatic with ac, pw. I haven’t powered it up yet so I don’t know if it has power door locks.

it is coming out of the harness that travels down and appears to go to the starter.
any idea what that “shoot off” of the harness powers?
but yes I guess I will have to do some forensics. Can that connector be had if I want to put it back to original?

Those 2 pig tailed wires from the 4 wire black housing starter harness connector should be Black And Red.
There should be a 2 wire black plastic connector housing inside that taped up bundle.
From the pig tailed connector from the starter harness there should also be a 2 wire connector in the AC harness. Those 2 connectors connect together and feeds HI Speed Blower Relay and blower motor ground.
Willcox Corvette Link (Connector Center Page Named Starter Motor Jumper Harn):http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/1...tic-ac-heater/
My 77 starter and AC harness is very similar.
Links to both harnesses,
Starter Harness:https://www.lectriclimited.com/start...harness-102810
AC Harness:https://www.lectriclimited.com/air-c...harness-118687
(notice the 2 wire connector just after the firewall rubber grommet, that connector plugs into the pigtail connector from the starter harness)

Disconnect the battery before you mess with ANY wiring.

Default Mystery solved - thanks

Thanks for all the help. Now I know it’s the power for the ac harness and I even have a good idea of the connector that is required from the Wilcox ac diagram. I need to take all the tape off and see what is hiding underneath...I’m betting it’s two wire nuts unfortunately.

Here are the correct GM Part numbers for the housings & crimp connectors.
(1) Male Black Plastic 2 Wire Housing GM #2984883
(1) F/M Black Plastic 2 Wire Housing GM #2973781
(1) #12 Male Crimp Connector GM #2971859
(1) #12 F/M Crimp Connector GM #2989877
(1) #16-#14 Male Crimp Connector GM #2971962
(1) #16-#14 F/M Crimp Connector GM #2965867
Here is a complete set of the correct Housings And Crimp Connectors LINK: https://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-2-Termin...UAAOSwjrNdAWzk
If you purchase from the e-bay seller ask to substitute 1 #12 Male & 1 #12 F/M crimp connectors, otherwise all the crimp connectors will be #16-#14 gauge wire. You Need 1 Male & 1 F/M in #12 gauge.
You can also get these from Mouser Electronics LINK:https://www.mouser.com/
On the Mouser Homepage just type in the part numbers from above.
On the crimp connectors most are a minimum order of 20ea.
Hope this helps...
