Default 69 Fuel Tank Support Question

Good Morning CF,

I am doing some work under my '69 and pulled the fuel tank support. As I continue to work on the rear end of the car, I am more and more convinced this car had some rear end damage at some point in a past life. Have found GM service replacement label on RH corner brace from bumper to frame, GM service part label on RH 2-piece brace from the bumper to the rear crossmember, both support rods are missing from the lower rear bumpers to the crossmember, fuel tank was replaced, license plate chrome bezel is a reproduction, etc.

I am guessing that the '69 fuel tank support is supposed to be straight, correct? Thanks in advance for your opinion.

The tank support itself does not have any distinct hard hit damage marks on the edges or surfaces of the support....but it has a very pronounced bow to it when you lay it next to something straight.

Also found this "T" stamp mark located in the center, left portion on the top side of the fuel tank support if this is of any help. Perhaps to at least determine if the fuel tank support is original or not?

I think the "T" is a normal manufacturers mark. Also, the support brace should be straight across, not bent as yours appears to be.

Thank you Joe. Normally, I would replace a damaged part but I think I'll just clean this one up and put it back in the car since it fits well and supports the fuel tank just fine. Car was also missing the anti-squeak front and rear fuel tank pads. I guess one more indicator of rear end damage on this car at some point it's past.

Appreciate the input.
