Can some one kindly tell me what holds the plastic slides in place for the ashtray door. I was replacing the lighter socket and find when I open the door the slides move with the door. If this is not right I would like to fix before I put everything back together.
thanks
That was a great help! Unfortunately my slides have/had a bit of a curve to Them so they weren’t catching the stops. I just tried to flex it a bit and it snapped in half. 50+ year old plastic is brittle who would have thought it. Guess I’m going to order new ones and the clip also cause I was missing that too.

My knees feel pretty much the same way as those slides....

If you still need help, let me know. I had the ashtray door in my '69 out, restored, reinstalled not too long ago. I took a few pictures of the disassembly steps and details of the parts. Should be able to send you more pics of anything you need. Sounds like you might be missing one or both of the screws and clips that hold the plastic slides in place.
Make sure everything (slides/door) are very clean. Mine used to do the same thing. Door was hard to slide. Cleaned everything up, years of dust. etc and now they work fine. Might even have to run a piece of sandpaper in the new guides
