Default Extinguisher on board?

Been thinking one of the first things I will do with my newly acquired 50 year old car, is add a fire extinguisher.
Anyone have any clever hacks for mounting an extinguisher kinda out of sight but still quickly accessible?
This is on a ‘71 coupe.
Just gathering ideas while I wait for winter to go away. <sigh>

Not sure if quickly accessible and kind of out of site play well together

If you search you'll see that more often than not the typical locations are on the rear wheel-well (need to fold the seat ahead to get at it)
Some on the bulkhead between the seats (accessible but visible)
and in front of either the driver or passenger seat (you could always put a carpet colored cloth over it to make it less visible

Placed mine in same location but Infront of my driver's seat. Been there for 12 years no issues with my feet.

To paraphrase another Member:

IMAGINE......through no fault of your own, the car is upside down in a narrow ditch and you cannot get out.

A fire starts in the engine bay. The extinguisher is mounted on the rear wheel well (at this point, which well does not matter)

Thanks Mooser.

I mounted mine in front of drivers seat. Most of my stuff is new but there's always a chance of something failing or a loose connection.

i built the bracket out of an tool or bar to install wooden/ tongue in groove floors with (flat bar part) and some oval shaped clothes rod scrap. Fun and easy little project.

I'm glad I saw this. It reminds me that I have to get one and install it because any car here registered as an antique, (30 years or older), has to have a fire extinguisher by law.
In front of the seat looks best to me.

I went with a fire extinguisher mounting bracket from Vette Works Motorsports for a C3 Corvette. They sell car fire extinguishers too. Then just bolted a wall-mount base with a clasp to the Vette Works C3 bracket. Very easy.

Absolutely true. I went with a 3 lb. ABC fire extinguisher which is a little bit bigger, basically as big as I could fit in front of the passenger front seat and not be in the way of people's legs. The 3 lb. ABC extinguisher only gives you 8 - 10 seconds of discharge time per the directions.

I do have an agreed value policy. I would rather see my car burn to the ground and collect the insurance money (which is probably more than I could sell it for) rather than deal with a partially burned auto that can be "repaired". Then I could go buy a chrome bumper vette!

I have mine, and have had mine for 45 years. You'd be FOOLISH not to have one.
Mine is in the 'Jack ' compartment. I have timed myself on its deployment, less than 20 seconds.
Having a green switch, battery cut-off switch is CRUCIAL as well.

You can easily unload an entire fire extinguisher on a wiring fire, with no real effect. If you disconnect the power from the ground - negative, then the fire becomes 'merely' an insulation fire and will go out forthwith.

by the way..sounding like captain obvious....having faulty hood latches mean you stand there with your fire extinguisher while the car burns to the ground!

I think NCRS gives you 4 points if you have one.

Be SAFE!

I put mine in the storage compartment above the jack.
The mounting bracket keeps it from rolling around while driving.
Maybe not as accessible as would be preferred, but it's also out of sight.

I'm with Bergerboy.
My early car 69...has less access to the jack compartment, the seats don't fold forward in the middle like the clamshells. Fiddling around with running around to the other side of the car and seat latches and etc....sucks!

The 82 is a piece of cake. I can retract the F/E from the drivers side.

You want it where you can get to it. FAST

Sorry, I'm a bit of a pure-ist in this regard...I ain't putting screws through the floor!

Unk.

Halon..... I can reach it from driver's seat if my arm doesn't get broken 😉
Battery disconnect is right between driver seat and emergency brake console, can reach that by leaning forward and reaching for my lower back area. Don't tell anyone where it's at, it's a secret. 👍
