I'm replacing a left lower dash that was missing when I bought my car. What is the rectangle hole to the right of the steering column for? I have ac but it doesn't look like a vent fits there.

Uhhh...a photo might be helpful. I can't think of a rectangular hole in the driver's dash coming from the factory!!?? How large?

Ralph,
That cut out rectangle area is for the AC Vent (just an opening) on that side. This first appeared in 1974 cars. Commonly called a "Lap Cooler". Keep in mind that in the rare instance a 74 thru 77 Corvette was ordered without AC, this rectangular cut out would not be present in the left side dash pad. I've attached a photo of a 74 pad with the vent and a photo (75 convertible NOTE the extra brace rod found on the convertibles) showing how the ductwork looks behind the dash pad on the 74 thru 77 Corvettes with AC. FYI...The AC Vent up thru '73 was actually under the dash on the driver's side. A black plastic duct with a circular vent pointing down.
Hope this helps.
