Default Tire Sizes

Hi all,

I need to replace the tires on my '77. They're 225 70 R15's. I want to move up to the 255 60R15's. As you can imagine, I don't want to buy the tires and not have them fit on my rims. I love the look of the chunkier tires and can't wait to see what they do for my handling too.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Charley

If your car has the original rims, they will fit with no problem. That size was optional on 78-82 models using the same 8" wide rims. That said, some have run into slight interference issues on the front when turning full lock. Most do not. The factory actually trimmed the forward edge of the front wheel opening on 78-79 cars equipped with that size tire.

Thanks, Paul! I thought as much seeing how many older (pre 1978) C3's I see with the larger tires.

Have a good one!

You may have to do a 4 wheel alignment because the wider tires may wear more on the outside tread.
