Back of Driver Instrument Cluster
1. Removing and refurbishing the wiper linkage and door tray.
2. Removing the windshield after some rust was spotted in Windshield frame.
3. Removing the driver and center gauge clusters to better spot more intrusive rust (thankfully not - limited to one spot on the windshield frame).
4. Will probably replace dash harness while I'm here.
Anyway, When I removed the driver side gauge cluster I noticed some surface rust on the backs of the cluster and would like to fix this. Once I remove the rust, should I spray a clear coating to sop any new formation? How can I keep the rust
off this cluster in the future?
I'd like to remove this rust and keep it off!

You can clean them, clear coat, paint, whatever but make sure the areas where the lights plug in are bare for grounding those circuits
Also where the actual ground wire connects over to the headlight switch, etc

The one I used years ago left the metal a light gray color.
I don THINK this would be anti conductive, but it would be easy to check with a vom or a test light.
FYI R&R'ing the dash was the worst job I've done on my '69.
It comes out easily, but was hard to get back in. The huge bundle of wires has to be in exactly the right place for the assembly to fit back in.
**the thin fiberglass housing will crack easily when you are trying to install it. DO NOT FORCE IT**
Adding to the drama, there is a difference between the early and late '69 routing of the big wire bundle.
Also, it might be easier to reinstall if you remove the extra braces used on convertibles and install them afterwards.
Good luck.
