If the trailer doesn't have fenders that fold down, to avoid this problem, place some wood down to raise the car. At New England Dragway.

I would say the smallest that would do it would be 15/16 feet. I think the UHaul ones are 15.

I have had my 69 on my 16 foot open trailer a couple times. Plenty of room.

U-Hauls auto trailers are the best bang for your buck.
They set nice and low for easy loading.

I've used U-Haul a number of times and they work great. I hauled my 71 C3 vert home with one. I like the tire tie down straps. Another nice feature is the drivers side fender folds down so you don't need to climb out the window. Also if are inclined you can buy insurance for the trailer (always get that its cheap) and insurance for what ever you are hauling.

Towed my 73 from CT to SC when I moved 2 years ago with the U-Haul car trailer. Got the insurance for piece of mind. No issues at all.

When we moved from Texas back to the east coast that's what we used. Worked great. just be prepared to climb out of the window as you can't open the doors.

Did you secure the boards to the trailer? I'd be too paranoid that they would slip no matter how well it's tied down.

I do the same thing. Works great.

I had a 16ft trailer and have had cars larger than C3s on it. I actually carried a 73 RCLB 4x4 K10 on it. I have an 18ft beaver tail now, and a C3 looks downright tiny on it.

The good thing about owning a car trailer is that you can haul more than just cars. The down side is the number of people that want to borrow your trailer!

I guess it depends on the trailer. I didn`t have a problem with the doors opening when we brought ours home. On our 16 foot trailer the wheels sit a bit farther back, so the doors weren`t a problem. (But then the front was a bit shorter, too) But if I had to, I could back the car on to eliminate door clearance issues.

You can crack the door open and reach in. You just can't open it enough to get out.

16+2, removeable fenders, but didn't need to, doors cleared.

I have an 18 foot open car hauler which is just about perfect. The fenders on mine are low enough that I can open the door. Only problem I have is the ramps are short and the car would bottom out while loading it. I built a couple of wood ramps to set the trailer ramps on, effectively lengthening the ramps. I'd post a photo of the trailer, but it's under about three feet of snow right now.

Funny story about the NE Dragaway....In 1971 I was living in NH and went to one of the big events. I put on some decent clothes, had my Dad's nice Canon camera, took a clipboard with me, and climbed up the stairs of the timing tower before the race. Told them I was a photographer from the University of Washington (I grew up in Seattle and was 20 at the time - ended up going to grad school at UW), and needed a photo pass. They gave me one and I had complete run of the place. Got close ups of all the action with all the big names. Took the pics on Ecktachrome slide film. Still have them around somewhere. Really good stuff.

BTW, for the OP, I haul C3s on our 15 foot aluminum trailer no problem. Dual axle, rated for 6500 pounds, brakes, etc.
