Oil pan ID
Greeting experts!
I am building a 1962 327 engine. stamping indicates '62 Impala. I have 2 pans available but I'm not sure what they fit. It had a bunch of chrome stuff on it, including a rusty chrome pan.
One of the pans looks normal with typically short sump. The other one has a long sump, about 8" long. Any idea what the long one came off of? any thoughts are always appreciated!

What are you putting the engine into? The long sump one looks like a typical early C3 Corvette chassis pan and the short sump pan looks more like a Camaro chassis pan or late C3 pan. They will both fit your block. Need to measure the radius at the front of the oil pan to get the right gasket. There are both thick and thin front gasket versions.

Thanks for the reply. I got this engine for essentially nothing (payment for some labor), plus a set of "Corvette" script alloy valve covers and a 3 groove Super T-10 with a bad bearing. Basically everything the guy had in his garage! I'm building a Corvette 327 Clone, KB 10.5 pistons, eagle rods, 461 heads, and a modern Lunati cam to replace the Duntov 30-30. I'm looking at a '70 Malibu 307/AT thats a solid California car to put this in. All my current cars are sticks, and I want an automatic that my wife will drive. She drove my 12.8 sec./quarter '64 GTO when we first got married and she liked it a lot

I agree on the long pan, but I probably ought to use the shorty for this. Thanks again for the input.

I don't think either of those are Corvette pans. Corvette pans have the drain at the rear of the pan, not on the side. The side drain pans are usually passenger car pans. Since you're looking for a pan to use in a Chevelle, I'm guessing you should be okay.
