Default Windshield header trim

My rearview mirror in my 69 is falling apart. I don't care for the way it is mounted with all those little parts. I noticed that the 77 and later C3s had mirrors glued to the windshield. Soooo...I want to get a 77-82 windshield header trim and put it on my 69 and get a mirror that glues to the windshield. Will it fit?

That is a good question, but for the most part I'd have to say no. We are doing a 1977 car here now that was converted to a convertible years ago and we had to run the header from the 1975 and back to accommodate the soft top latch and mirror mounting bracket. The issue with this is that the 1968-1976 header has the provisions for the sun visors made into it. The 1977-1982 style cars had the visor mounting in the chrome end of the header bar.

So while the header metal portion is the same you may have visor issues trying to mount your visors to the abs plastic header used on 77-82 cars. For us we actually filled this provision on a new header and then used a vinyl repair kit to hide the provisions for the 68-76 style visor and what a PITA this was.

My suggestion would be to just glue the mirror to the windshield and leave the bracket in place. I may look a bit odd but at least the bracket will fill the hole.

Thanks. I think I will fill the hole in my original then. It is not in the best condition so I will fill it then have the whole thing recovered. I plan on having all my interior pieces covered anyway. The thin plastic leather texture stuff that was used originally looks like crap.
