Default D/S outer door handle

Is there a trick or an easy way to install this. It was a PIA getting the old one out.

Did you disconnect the rods and take the door latch off? If not, if you do that, you have far better access to the door handle retaining nuts.

Make sure you have TONS of light on the inside of the door. I had to replace both key locks, talk about a pain, ended up setting two lights inside the door so that I could see what my fingers were doing. The small free flash lights from HB are small and fit nicely on and around the door glass.

Isn't that fun? I think that challenge should be a carnival booth at the county fair. See how many people can win a stuffed animal.

You have to have small hands. After I failed getting the fastening nut threads started about a dozen times my wife with smaller hands fixed it in three attempts.
What a pain. Then I wished I didn't put the gasket under the handle. Looks funky.

Tell the neighbors little kid you will give him five bucks to install the handle hardware.

And, oh ya. You will need a long magnet to fish out the dropped . . . . . . . .

Had my friend come over with his small hands and had the door handle removed and installed the new one in less than 10 minutes.

Good ! I hope you sprayed everything with a douse of White Lithium Grease also.

I remember the day my C3 outer door handle broke, deep-down-inside. So lucky, it was in the garage and not in front of dozens of people at a car show. Awful feeling.

Of the dozens of cars I have owned in 50 yrs, I never broken a door handle before. Inside or outer.

White lithium spray stuff doesn't really put much grease on anything. Sliding parts like door latches, etc. need a decent amount of white lithium grease...from a tube.

CRC red can at Walmart. Works great. It doesn't turn to yellow concrete like some others.
Use on: door hinges, hood hinges, trunk latches, tailgate pivot etc. Been using it for yrs on all my vehicles.

Had to adjust my passenger side outside door release as it was not releasing the door latch when operating. I put the window all the way down then removed the door panel. Then the plastic sheet barrier behind door panel and small access plate covering power window motor as I knew something would fall to bottom of inside door. Next were two screws that hold the hard plastic latch cover and the 3 latch screws so all that inside latch stuff would lower in the door. Then I could see the two studs with nuts holding on bottom of outside door release handle. Removed with long wrench through the upper access latch area hole in door(smaller hands may be required). Once the two nuts were off I could pull the entire assembly up though outside release handle hole with latch still attached to opening rod on release handle. This gave me access to the clip that holds the rod on the release handle. Removed clip and rod slipped off release handle to free it. In my case, I lengthened the rod 3 turns as it is threaded in the latch mechanism, put it back together and outside release now works as advertised. My car is a 1975 4-spd with pwr windows. I did recover the wrench a few times from inside bottom of door after dropping it removing those two nuts. Time consuming but doable.
