Default Another fine mess

Hello, I have a 1975 coupe and I am trying my best to repair some electrical issues. so far, I have done fairly well. I cam across this today and I would like to find out what it is and what should be connected to it. I removed the console and found this underneath attached to tunnel. Sorry if the pictures are not that clear. It seems that there shoul

d be something inserted into plug. Last pic shows what was in it and it look like it may have burned. any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

This kinda looks like where the thermal limiter fuse plugs in to, but that is in the engine bay on the pass side, usually attached near the wiper door vacuum cylinder. this fuse will melt when the it senses something is wrong with the compressor, thereby cutting electricity to the compressor to prevent it from further damage.

here is picture of the thermal limiter fuse. what you've got there looks like where this plugs in to. curious... but as I say, this would be in engine bay.

You may already have one...
I bought a 12" by 16" colorized laminated wiring diagram for my project after dealing with numerous problems. It made wiring repairs go much easier and faster than working with black/white GM diagrams. It also helped me sort out aftermarket add-on components.

I agree with Peterbuilt. Your pics show the wiring harness connector for the 1974 - early 1975 seat belt interlock relay. What you have in your console is the connector for the relay. I suspect Bubba pulled the cover off the relay and removed the guts and then plugged the remainder into the connector. Here is the connector:

Below is an entire assembly (wiring harness connector and relay):

Here is the relay itself, P/N 1997426

Search ebay for these items. P/N 1997426

What is the VIN for your '75? This system carried into 1975 vehicles produced through December of 1974 as an operational system. Vehicles produced after December 1974 had the system installed but it was rendered non-operational at the Factory. By March of 1975 the system was gone completely.

Attached is a page from the soon to be published 1975-77 NCRS TIM&JG 3rd Edition offering more clarity on the seat belt interlock system, as it relates to 1975 cars.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for the information. Based on the sheet you sent me, it appears that this car was equipped with the interlock system. Vin # ending in 408239. I don't see the reset module on the firewall in the engine compartment. Here is what I am trying to do, but I am not that great with electrical work. I am trying to get the seat belt system to work as follows: Seat belt light illuminate and buzzer alert. Buzzer and light to go off when seat belts are engaged.

What I do have now on the rear harness: the connections for the seat belt buckles & connectors for seat bottoms. I have the buckles and both seat bottom has the sensor and connectors. In the main dash harness it has the buzzer connector and the buzzer attached.

Is it possible to get it to work without the interlock system being complete? If it is not possible to get the buzzer to work, can it at least have the warning light on dash operational and goes off when seat belts are engaged?

Not sure if I am making myself clear, but if you understand what I am attempting to do, maybe you can give me some guidance. Thanks

Glad you were able to figure this out, VinniePG

"Is it possible to get it to work without the interlock system being complete? If it is not possible to get the buzzer to work, can it at least have the warning light on dash operational and goes off when seat belts are engaged?"

I do understand what you are trying to accomplish. Chevrolet issued a TSB that allowed service personel the ability to disable the interlock, yet still provide for warning lamp functionality. It mentions removing the seat belt buzzer. I wonder by leaving the buzzer in place you will accomplish your goal. I have attached the TSB and an article from the NCRS Corvette Restorer for your use. In addition, others have suggested you purchase a wiring diagram for your car, if you have not already. For the 1975 wiring diagram offered by many vendors, you should verify this system is depicted on the diagram.

BTW, is the orange bracket that held the interlock overide still mounted to your passenger side firewall? See pic below:

Just curious.

Good luck
