I have original stingray emblems for the fender with the long posts. What are most people using to secure them to the car? I’d prefer to not use speed nuts or a glue that can damage the paint. All suggestions are greatly appreciated
Friction!!! Most people don’t secure them in any way and just use friction to keep them in place. That way they can be easily removed for washing and waxing.
Me I’m the nervous type so I Carefully bent the pins to increase the tension and avoid a loss. Also make sure that the rubber backing material is intact to not scratch bathe paint if they vibrate.
teneck83 I use one speed nut per emblem. They secure the emblem snug up against the body so there is no movement and they don't/won't fall off when you hit a bump in the road. At your work bench, thread the speed nut on to one of the middle emblem pins with the appropriate socket. If your work it on and off a few times, you will find that once you install the emblem on the car, you can remove and install the nut with your fingers. I have used this method for over 45 years on my '73 with no issues with original paint. It makes it so easy during wash and wax time. This method of attachement does not work on my '75 as the emblem is different (3 pins instead of 4, pins are shorter).
I hope this helps. Good luck!
You can use a small silicone vacuum line plug. The kind that slides over a tube or pipe. They sell variety packs at Autozone etc. Just find one that fits tightly on the pin and push it on.
