what are you running for an air dam in the front. If you arent getting enough air into the radiator compartment it will overheat, you also need all the radiator "seals" in place as well. If its staying hot on the highway or speeds above 30mph then its not the fans. And put in a lower temp thermostat so it stays open longer

My 71 LS5 with a Dewitts radiator, 180 deg thermostat, proper fan shroud, proper shroud to rad sealing, intact air dam, working fan clutch and correct timing runs spot on 180 deg all day long. It might pop up around 190 sitting in traffic in mid July though. I don't mean this in a bragging way, just if you have a good radiator and the proper sealing setup the car should run as designed.

Fought cooling issues until I put the Dewitts in several years ago - money well spent.

Are you sure that what you are using to measure the temp is giving accurate readings?

Changing the thermostat -- or even eliminating it -- will not change the operating temperature of the the cooling system/engine system. It will only alter the amount of time it takes to reach that 'equilibrium' temperature. If delaying the heating of the engine is beneficial to you, install a 160F stat; but I would never operate an engine without a thermostat.
I have a Be Cool 4 core aluminum radiator in it now with dual 12 inch electric fans and new 160 temp thermostat.
i still have the original radiator, fan shroud and clutch fan. The Vette still has original air dam on it. Wonder if the original fan shroud would fit on BeCool rsdiator and to re- install the clutch fan and do away with the electric fans would be better???

Big question, mounted 35 amp toggle switch under dash. Have new 12 gauge wire connected.
Have 1 hole drilled thru firewall (3/8 inch) for power in and power out. Since there is a power drawal on that wire, the wire is running almost against itself in and out..Should I separate wire and run thru two separate holes with grommets for safety factor for the power drawal/ heat factor on that wire.

A bigger radiator made for your model year would allow the use of the original fan shroud. But it would have to be made for that specific model. THe electric fans help alot in stop and go traffic as they are spinning at full speed versus a clutch fan that would be running at idle speeds as you sit in traffic. Make sure all the seals are installed and if you are still hot while the car is moving look into a bigger air dam. They made a factory extension in 71
