I am so pleased I had to share this. I had to replace the gas line in the tank and look what I found. I brushed it off and can see my 1973 was a custom order to Eppy's Chevrolet Inc. 730 S Market Street Canton OH.
Says “Customer Order”. With zooming I found the dealer. Not sure what else of importance is on a build sheet just maybe codes of options.
They are all custom orders!
Essentially, the build sheet or the GMAD manifest lists the buyer's options by both RPO (ordering code) and by broadcast code) production fulfillment code. As the Bum states, special options makes it the custom order and build. It becomes the supplement to the standard build outlined in the AIM, or Assembly Instruction Manual.

Research those code options.
Anyone who special orders a new car, generally wants something special that’s not found on your everyday lot car ordered by the dealer for stock.
Some options could make your 73 more rare and more valuable.
Big block, off road suspension/brakes, original color options, special packages, etc.

I've learned much from many CF contributors and its my pay forward. Consider that the only source is the National Corvette Museum and that's for BG built Corvettes. Research of this nature tells the accurate story of GMAD manifest use from 1973-81, and not colored by early C3 who in most cases have yet to learn the unique attributes of the 73-81 manifest. I learn from posters such as proactive solutions and appreciate the props.
If a '73-'81 car was ordered for dealer stock or dealer inventory, would it have XXX CUSTOMER ORDER typed on the GMAD Manifest (build sheet), as Proactive_Solutions build sheet has?

It's typical on most build sheets throughout the years but it seems beginning in 1978, it becomes atypical and by Bowling Green builds, disappears. But then BG had incorporated new computer systems into the build process and the need for its inclusion no longer required.
Every Corvette had option, not specifically generated by the buyer or even dealer. For example, a particular powerteam (engine/tranny) had to specify gear ratios. So even base equipment called out gear ratios as options, or interior or paint, all options. So all Corvettes got a build sheet and each was a custom build and included the XXX CUSTOMER ORDER XXX.
I would be curious about the date for the sales document Ralph Spears included above.
Says customer ordered. Just means a person ordered it that way. Not a bad combo. This would have been the car I was looking for if i wouldn’t have found the special ordered black car.
