I am hoping to get something that is already cut and ready to go in. Not really wanting to do a custom job.
Are all of the options out there the same? All of the vendors sell them but I am wondering if there is any difference. It would be nice to get something that isn't fibrous and powdery like my original. Maybe something foiled like the sound deadening stuff many use.
hood insulaton is sound deadener, not heat insulation. you do not want to trap heat in the engine compartment. i feel there are many better ways to spend money on your car.
I thought it was mainly for fire suppression? Isn't the point that if there is an engine bay fire the mat would fall down to try and smoother it? I know it wouldn't put it out but at least buy you a little more time.
Actually, the blanket seems to feed the fire. Google Corvette Engine fires. Scary !
The entire "blanket" is engulfed in flames.
It was a GM designer sound deadener. Early C3 test-drive customers complained of engine noise. Woozies.
Fifty years later we can't get big enough or loud enough headers / mufflers / side-pipes.
