Default 1982 exhaust system

Hi all,
I'm going back and forward with the idea of installing sidepipes at my 82 CE.
I know most of you guys don't like it on plastic bumper...
Few months ago I was about to purchase the system until someone here told me somthing that is true: "CE meant to look curtain way, with sidepipes it won't be CE.".
I was looking all over the internet for CE with sidepipes, and I couldn't find even 1, just so I can have an idea how it'll look.
Currently I have stock exhaust system and it's too quiet. I was looking into magnaflow and other flowmaster, but I don't like it.
What do you think about chamber exhaust with H or X pipe?
will it sound like sidepipes?

Thanks for the help, it's driving me crazy

Do you want the sound from the side pipes or the look of the side pipes?

Have you considered installing straight pipes for the mufflers and evaluating the sound? Would be a lot cheaper and your beautiful 82CE would still look the same. Could also be easily undone if you ever want to sell.

Default 78 through 82 C3 Exhaust

The previous owner of the '80 C3 that I recently bought obviously went through the same thought process. The OEM mufflers were gone and replaced with split resonator tips on each side. Medium throttle at ~ 35 mph you couldn't hear the radio for the rumble coming out the back. I put Walker OEM type mufflers back on it; they sound pretty good. A pair of good 2&1/2 glass packs would probably been OK too.

I like the sidepipes looks 4 sure and the sound! But with the CE color I'm not sure how it'll look together.
I guess my biggest concern is the look vs keep the CE original look.
One thing is 4 sure, I want to remove the catalytic converter. Straight pipe will be too loud.

Side pipes alone on a CE will look out of place. If you can change the cars theme overall it could work. Harder to do than say. I might suggest back dating the "look" to make it all work.

Nope. I like the look of my CE, and I bought it for that reason. For that being said I guess I'll go with under the car chambers with headers.
what are you guys suggesting? Magnaflow and flowmaster sound sad

Try getting a "test pipe" in place of your cat and see if you like that sound = cheapest exhaust mod possible. You'd be amazed how much "healthier" the motor sounds without the "pre-muffler".

I'll give it a try. I believe my converter is bolted. I'll try to remove and gut it.
I couldn't find anything online with the air pump tube.

I have been considering doing this on my 91 L98, gutting my downstream cat or inserting a section of straight pie in its place.
Will leaving the chamber of a cat empty create a swirling effect of the exhaust and cause flow issues?
Would it be better to just pick up a short section of pipe from the local auto parts store and insert it in place of the cat?

There's an 82 CE locally that has Hooker sidepipes, and it looks killer!
