Is $18000 a good price for this car? 79 L82 with Auto transmission. I've been in the market for a while and this car looks like it's in great shape. It has 21,000 original miles on it. The previous owner had it since 1982. I just don't want to overpay

It's a good price..........for the seller!

That's a clean, low miles car but in my opinion, $12K to $15K. I'm no expert though. Let's see what others say.

Thanks for the input! I was thinking the 12k-15k range as well. Briefly talked to the seller and he said it is non-negotiable.

That's really low miles. Still over 40 years old and all rubber parts perish with age. 79's are plentyfull. better be perfect with rebuilt suspensions and brakes, etc. for that price.

Seems a little high to me but guys can ask what they want. I agree that car is going to need a lot if you plan on driving it. Low mileage means the paint and interior are probable pretty nice, but that's about it. It's going to need pretty much everything else.

Then there's this guy

There is no such thing as overpay per say, if the buyer and seller both agree on a price than that is what the market will bare. If it's the right car for you don't let a couple thousand GW's stand in the way of having what you want. The next $15K car might need $2K in repairs on day one.

Hard to beat an original 2nd owner low mileage car.

Maybe a little high. For sure at that price, every single thing should work as it's supposed to, and the car should be in top shape, meaning the things like the wiring should not be monkeyed with, the weatherstripping should be like new, the interior should need nothing, the paint should all but, if not perfect. I might be able to forgive a little bit of hoses and gaskets being degraded, but not much beyond that. 15k would be better deal. I'd love to think I could get 12k for my numbers matching 79 L-82 4 speed, but there's nit picking things that would have to be fixed before it would be worth that much.

Could you find a better car for less? Probably. Low miles doesn't mean that it doesn't need every bushing replaced. Will the car sell at that price to someone else? Eh, maybe? At $15K it probably would.

That's a lot to pay for a 79 auto. To convert to a 5 or 6 speed manual will add at least another $4 to $6K. But if it is a real black on black L82 (ask to see the trim tag, VIN, and engine stamp) and you want an auto, then inspect it and make an offer!

I bought this 79 L82 survivor with 16,000 miles in pristine condition for a little north of $16K not too long ago if that helps. It came out of storage and spent a couple weeks in the shop getting every hose, belt and bushing replaced and the AC working and converted to R134. Also, need to look at things like door locks, power antennas, windows ect.... Low miles don't mean no problems.

Prices are starting to increase for good condition C3's. You need to make your decision on how well this car matches your desires and whether you can find the same car anywhere else for less.
Now I will say that if that is the initial ASKING price, I would certainly make a lower offer to start. If the car is just what you want, offer $13-15K and see what response you get.

No, it's a lousy price... 30% is 'additional dealer markup'.

That kind of money can get you a CE or a Pacecar.

$5000 too high.

I thought it might be worth the premium price for Black/Black L82, 2 owner with 21K miles until I saw the engine compartment.

Agreed, looks rough compared to my 16,000 mile car. Should be closer to this that what they are showing.

Be prepared to sink a few more grand to update: new hoses, rubber, leaf springs, etc.
