Hi everybody,Does anybody have a pix of the wires that go to the horn relay,1970-350-ac,my battery gauge don't work so I think putting the wires on wrong may cause the battery gauge not working thanks 4 your help
The relay is different every year 68-72, sometimes minor, sometimes significant. You specifically need a picture/diagram for 1970, big block or small block, because they are the same.
The horn relay has three spade terminal and a "buss bar" for the battery & alternator constant power
Spade Terminals-
Green wire goes to the horn-
Black wire goes to the horn button-
Pink striped Dk blue goes to the harmonica on the steering column for the key sensor
The buss bar- connects to two red wires- one goes to the starter one goes to the alternator
The Orange and Black wires sharing the same terminal-
Orange goes to the ammeter (turns Black after fusible link)
The black wire (turns Red after fusible link) goes into the pass cabin- powers the headlights/wiper (override switch) ignition and fusebox.
That's all the wires there- somebody could have added a wire- we really need a picture.
The 68 is slightly different in mounting- 69-71 are the same and 72-73 are the same.
HEY Richard 454 ,what started this was I noticed my ammeter gauge was not working and someone else posted this so I took a look at my gauge and it was not working don't know how long it did not work but every thing else was ok so im going to hook it up your way so this will tell me if I hook it up wrong or I will test power to the gauge all new wire Harness so there will be no extra wires thanks alot for every body help Bob

Test power at the ammeter-
At the ammeter-
Black/ White wire goes to the horn relay- should see 12+ constant- is protected by a fusible link at the horn relay
Black wire goes to the starter- should also see12+ constant - also protected at the starter w/ a fusible link
If you see power at the meter on both wires- most often the small gauge wire inside will be broken. You can check - disconnect BOTH wires and check for continuity between the terminals.
