Default Front Clip Bond

All,

I have been putting in the research to make sure I'm prepared to remove the front clip off my 1975 Coupe. I saw a lot of articles, videos etc pointing to using Vette Panel Adhesive to re-attach the front clip. Looking through Zip's catalog though they say you should not use Vette Panel Adhesive for SMC (sheet molded compound) panels found on 1975 and later vettes. What should I use to reattach my 1975 front clip to the vehicle then?

setting a front clip does not take a couple minutes,VPA sets very fast. i would use 3m 08115, i think i used almost 3 tubes. i messed with adjustments for a good 45 minutes and i am very happy with the results

Make sure the nose is sitting where it wants to sit before you glue it down. If you have to pull it back a half an inch and Clamp it to make it stay there, it’s going to pop the bonding material loose and go back forward that half an inch that you’re forcing it back. Why are you removing the front clip? Is the same front clip going back on? Is it correctly aligned the way it sits? If so be sure you leave the inner fenders bonded to the nose. Because they are what sets it back up on the radiator support so that the nose is where it belongs.

Solid questions. So I have a fair amount of leaking in the windshield corners and into the door pillar/body mount 2 area. It also looks like it’s been removed before (the front clip) or at least repaired. The cowl bonding strips don’t appear to be there anymore, I don’t have a great shot of it but it looks like someone just kind of glued the cowl area down?

Best shot I have of the cowl bonding area

The passenger inner fender is coming detached on the lower side of the rear bond strip. I’m not 100% sure there’s supposed to be one but drivers inner fender there’s nothing there on the front side. So I can see clean from the wheel well into the front bumper.

Also attempting to see if I can remove enough of the firewall to look at the top of the door pillar area and see how much rust there is.

that missing front inner fender is the MAIN nose mounting point. about 6 parts. skin thpough. there are also links to firewall removal. http://www.corvette-restoration.com/...lation-part-1/ is the nose itself good? they are relatively inexpensive as corvette noses go. i am gonna do a chrome bumper conversion on my beat 75 nose and then i am gonna put a 71 nose on it (aftermarket) that fell into my lap. but i gotta get it cleared salvage as a 75 first... post pics of the missing inner fender. if it is that loose, getting front bumper and rad support off and it may just take some wiggling.

Just completed the front-end clip install on my 1969. I used Evercoat Edge panel adhesive. Two tubes did the job in my case.

I feel like the nose is sitting ok? I'm not sure I would know if it wasnt. Here are some of the best shots I could find of the nose

Awesome thank you! I assume those screws are pretty shallow, what'd you end up using?

I used 3/4" sheet metal screws with 1" washers to make sure they penetrated both the panel and bonding strips. The Evercoat Panel Bond is now cured and the front end is solid. I just have to work on the door gaps now.

the screws serve 2 purposes. you align the nose and screw it down at in the correct location. then, making sure the screws go into the same holes, they act as alignment pins and ensure the nose is in the same place making it quicker and easier to hit the correct spot. and THEN they act as clamps where it is hard to put clamps while the adhesive is curing.
