Default Wiper Actuator Installation Question

My voyage to get my '72 up and running continues. Next on my list is replacing my wiper door actuator. It job looks easy enough, but is there anything I should be on the look out for or be aware of before I dig in? Having never replaced one before, I just want to be extra careful I don't mess anything up.
Thanks again for all of your help,
Stan

Setting the distance for the adjuster nut/link is about the only hard part for the actuator itself, (assuming that everything else is ok)
The procedure in the AIM is good and more or less simple to follow

Just replaced mine. There's a brass "turnbuckle" that connects the actuator to the wiper door link. The actuator shaft is right hand threaded. The link is left hand threaded. Rotating the turnbuckle CW (facing the firewall) will separate the the two. Count the revolutions as you disconnect it so it will go back with the same geometry.

Stan,

It's an easy remove-and-replace job. No hidden fasteners. In case the long adjustment nut is frozen onto the stud of the actuator, it can still be unscrewed from the stud on the wiper door hinge linkage by spinning the entire actuator (providing of course that the long nut isn't frozen on to both the actuator stud and the hinge linkage).

When you're reassembling, remember to put the vinyl bellows over that stud-to-nut-to-stud connection before screwing them together. Twice (!) I've made the connection only to realize I'd left the bellows off, and had to undo and then re-do my work. Live and learn!

You should have no problems.

Just out of curiosity, why are you replacing it?

Hey Catfish, I'm replacing it because I tried cleaning the old one and used a harsh chemical that took off some of the finish -- big mistake on my part and it really looks lousy when I show it. That is the only reason.

Understand perfectly! Mine was 'ugly', too. I sent it (along with my headlight relays) to a fellow in Texas who restores/refinishes them.

That option sounds appealing. Is he still in the business?

Yes, he is. Here's his email and shipping address:

Robert Demmel (bdemmel34@gmail.com)

Bob Demmel, 1720 Chardonnay, New Braunfels, TX 78132.

Here's photos from work he did in late 2019. I see you're in Spotsylvania - I'm 10 minutes off I-95 Exit 61 if you ever want to take a look at them.

He just got back to me with a quote that seems reasonable. I'm leaning toward doing it and going back to Zip's to return the one I just purchased.
Thanks again.

Not to butt in, but anyone know how to easily install the bellow? I remember trying it once, by using wire ties to compress it while connecting the rod, not successful. Must be doing something wrong. Thanks

I've only just used my fingers and squished it against one side or the other of the connection joint while getting the threads started.
