Here's a clearer picture of the hose in question on a pump that has been removed - it's the main on curving in front of the camera with the little tail on the bottom left - where does this attach to?

Ah.... I think I've found it - it's to connect to a catalytic converter pipe, which as my car is not carrying a cat, explains why I can't find anywhere to connect it to.

Mystery solved.

Last Triumph...
You are asking the right questions and have selected a viable route to take with your car. I would advise that you NEED to get a few indispensable reference documents to help you on your quest. These are absolute necessities for the DIY C3 owner:
Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual (available from most Corvette parts suppliers)
Chevrolet Chassis Overhaul Manual (not in print but comes up on eBay regularly) Note: These two documents may be combined into a single document for later vintage C3's
Assembly Instruction Manual [AIM} (for your model year) This is the 'build' book used by the assembly line folks at the Corvette Assembly plants. This will provide the drawings which detail how all the pieces are fit together in the car AND in the order they were assembled.
Corvette Owner's Manual (for your model year) [Some useful info in this but just something every owner should have.]

The AIM is the document you need to know how all the engine/emissions stuff fits together. Happy C3 journey!!

For those of us in Ca that have to smog those, if its missing or have to buy cats that would kill a buy for me.
Vettes are one of the few cars I like to buy that arent "messed with"...few exceptions

Want to pick up 40-50hp?? Ditch the smog, cat, unhook the computer module, go true dual exhaust, add some shorty headers, new intake manifold, and a new distributor. This is a teasing start. Enjoy your ride man. I did all this to my 81, and then dropped a new 400hp crate motor in it. I have all the original parts, including the motor. Have fun. Btw, after doing all this it will be worth much more than the stale stock.

It's got a 3" true dual exhaust on already without the cat and drives so well, I'm reluctant to touch it or chase performance I don't personally need. It fires up instantly, pulls smooth and strong without any hesitation, flat spot or issue, I'm content with the way it is.

Yours sounds like fun though!

If it makes you feel better, save all of the stuff you take off for the next owner to throw away (but sell the Smog/A.I.R. pump to someone held prisoner in California).

Go drive your car. When you do, you will find that 85% of the vacuum hoses are meaningless.

Get rid of everything that doesn't make your car faster or more reliable (or, you know, stop, like the vacuum hose to the power brakes).

Simpler, faster, better, more reliable, and easier to work on all mean More Time Driving!

My 81 is in a very similar state, new aluminum radiator installed, and removed smog pump to get rid of some s$&@! I have saved all parts for the just in case in the future, not me. The BIG issue with our 81s is the computer, if yours works and you haven’t seen the check engine light you’re lucky. I read an article from a tech service guy who worked on the cars when new and they were a big pain. I am seriously looking into a 75-80 QJet and new HEI distributor so I don’t have to worry what’s next. I love my car and personally think the 80-82s are super sexy looking and drive well. That’s my plan for the future, drive it and enjoy the way it makes me feel! Plenty of help on our forum for what you decide to do👍

Excellent stuff.

Right now (knock on wood), it runs and drives great, no issues or lights so computer seems to be behaving itself.

Not fair. His car is in the top 3 of the most 'original' on this forum.
