a friend of mine as this we have it all stripped down as the vette is rotten needs a complete restoration . he believes it to be a greenwood how can we tell
I don’t believe it is a genuine one of five built Greenwood Daytona Corvettes. It’s a hard question as this is not a factory option in the style of the Callaway, these were tuner cars more like older Motion Corvettes. What you do have is a rare (not sure how many exist) car that is very 1980’s excess….special modified Corvette. People modified their Corvettes because the Greenwood started at $37,000 and went to $53,000 with all the options…not bad for a car with a base price of $10,000 usd!
The Daytona body kit was designed to be a street rod modification that would “look like” an IMSA Corvette racecar. Greenwood themselves built five street Daytona’s prior to Ecklers beginning production of their own. There was one 1980 and four 1981’s. Looking at the red interior, I do not believe this is one of them. Also it appears the rear window does not open, but I may be wrong? All five had the Cars and Concepts rear window kit. Stranger things may have happened though and one of the cars could be in your hands. Can you post pictures of the rear suspension and interior as well as a look at the twin turbo setup in the engine compartment please…..these cars were more than a body kit in some cases. One is at the NCM, number one, and the others are accounted for….. Two were sold in Illinois and three in Florida. All are known, but sometimes they get lost. Remember it should be a twin turbo car…..

Incidentally the original Greenwoods had handpainted painted script in the door channels, rear and sides at times....stripping them off would have erased that link to an identity.....
Anytime you are trying to prove a car....leave it alone first. Once its been restored its no longer what it was. It is only original once. It would be interesting to know how many kits were sold by ecklers from 1982? to present day. They are spectacular, if an aquired taste.
