Red line
I have 78 small block. I am expecting something I can't figure out. When I drive my car I can not go over 75. The moter is red lined at that speed.
I have taken it to a transmission shop, and they tell me that is driving fine no problems. It is just geared that way. It does have a 4/11 rear end, but the car has been driven over 100ph in the past and on red line .
Any thoughts as to why it is red lined.

Sounds like it’s in 2nd gear. Mine redlines @ 90 in 2nd gear with 3:55. With your 4:11 75 sounds about right.

The '78 has an electronic tachometer, doesn't it? If so, you problem may be a bad tach filter unit (little can wired in that signal line circuit). Tach can read 'high' and be erratic when the filter goes bad. It could also be a problem with the tach circuit board. It is unlikely to be the tachometer, itself.
