Actually, NO! The 84 ECM WILL work, but not the 4+3 ECM. It has to be from an automatic 700r4. If you use that ECM, you WILL have idle issues. If you need an ECM, I would go with the EBL Flash II from Dynamic EFI. I will give you free of charge a tune that was created for the 82/84 specifically that will work great. Hope this helps...

If your motor is stock, there IS NO programming involved unless you want to do it and play. It's a turn-key tune. Install the EBL in the stock position, load the EBL software on a laptop with a USB port, plug laptop into the EBL and upload the tune and...GO! The stock tune we created for the 82/84 was developed with three different stock 82s and I even gave the tune to a fourth. a Chevrolet dealer in MO for a customers car. How's that for sticking it out there on your product and having faith in your work? GM is using it for a customers car. It ran great, they sent me mail on how well it ran, but they did lower the idle rpm just a tad. I think where it's set at now is fine and works great for off idle fun. Like I said, if you need an ECM to drive your car, the EBL IS the way to go and retain the CFI system and run better than GM stock.
PM me if you want to talk more about this and I'll shoot you my number.

any other option is running a 40 year old ecm that had 1 capacitor replaced to make it work. everything else is 40 years old and just waiting for an excuse to pop.
Could someone email me the info about what it takes to install the ebl Ecm into my 82? I’m trying to make the decision about what to do to get my 82 back on the road wagvette@hotmail.com
