Good evening, I am new to the site but am excited to be here. I have a question that maybe someone could help me with. I have a 1968 convertible that I am bringing back to life. I have a new motor coming that won't fit in the hood. I looked around and found the hood style I like but haven't found one that will fit. I need a long style hood and prefer the Baldwin scoop. I can only find the long style hood for my car in the L88 or Stinger. Does anyone know if there is a maker of a 1968 long style Baldwin hood? Thank you for any information! Jose'

Is that the big block hood with the stinger on top look? Heres a short hood. I know there are some differences to the 68 hood so that some of the later years dont fit quite right, I think its a hood latch thing. Your going to have to do some research on that. Are ou trying to eliminate the hidden wiper door?
heres Ecklers hood https://www.ecklerscorvette.com/1968...All%20Products
It is similar to the big block hood with the stinger. There is a slight difference though. I should get around 5" of extra clearance if I can find it. Yes, my hidden wiper door was already removed when I obtained the car so I would need the long style Baldwin hood. I can only seem to find it in the original size utilizing the wiper door.
I did consider using a stinger scoop on a long style L88 hood but that would take quite a bit of work as well. I prefer a long hood that is molded with the Baldwin or possibly the stinger.
I seem hit road blocks on finding what I prefer....hahaha
American Sports Car/Stinger Fiberglass Designs still make the original Baldwin Hood.
Check it out on their website.
When I searched for a new hood for my 73 they told me they only produce the Baldwin Hood in the short hood style and would not make one in a long hood style.
They do make a long/tall L88 hood, a long stinger BB hood and a couple of other hoods you might like.
I purchased their long/tall L88 hood for my 73 and could not be happier with the quality. American Sports Car/Stinger Fiberglass Designs makes the hoods for Elker's and other vendors, but will sell them factory direct and cheaper than going to a vendor.
the problem with the long baldwin or L88 hood is the air inlet is too close to the windshield. you lose most of the ram effect. do you have a hood now? it is a bunch cheaper to add whatever scoop to your existing hood than to start over. what hood is on it now? the 73-79 style is much roomier than the stock 68 hood. and what is it about the engine that makes it not fit? got pics?

Derekderek,
I dont know for sure what the hood is that is on it. I will try to attach a picture. I am having a new 383 stroker built for it and the builder said I will need at least an L88 size hood. I thought about my own scoop but really like the Baldwin and can't find it in just the scoop.
I dont think there should be any issues with the hood at all on your car.
I think it has the same clearance as my stock 77 hood, which closes just fine over a BB with an Edelbrock rpm performer intake.
You should be fine.
Once the engine is done and in the car, take your measurements.
The long 73+ hood you currently have is about 1 1/2” taller than the 68-72 short hoods.
You can also install a drop base air filter that will give you even more clearance.
There are numerous threads where members have discussed choice of intakes, air cleaners and hood clearance.
You may be just fine without replacing the hood.
your car has an engine in it now, i assume? wad up some aluminum foil into a few ***** and place them on the air filter and close the hood. they will squish down to the gap you currently have between filter and hood. do you know what intake you currently have? and do you know what intake the 383 comes with? you can find the height of both intakes and compare to see if new one will fit and if not, how much you need to drop the air filter. and that is a 73-76 stock hood does it have the vac actuated ram air setup in it? if so, 73-75 hood. if not, 76 hood.
