Neither. Both ammeter wires are 12vdc. They both come from the SAME [main] power wire, which is used as a current shunt from the resistance in the wire between the connection points of those two wires. You can use EITHER of those wires as the voltage feed for the voltmeter you are installing. Get ground from any good source tied to the chassis. It would be best to get ground from the battery -, of course. Just wrap up the other ammeter lead and insulate the open end; a future owner might want to re-install the ammeter, as it provides much more info about the 'health' of your electrical system than does a simple voltmeter.
