Default t top bushings

I'm not sure if it's me or the bushing but I cannot get the rear plastic bushings into the mounting plates on my 1978 Pace Car. I've literally been banging on this thing for 30 minutes and have gotten nowhere. Any tips?

Well I succeeded in splitting one of the bushings completely in two, so I'll be looking for a replacement and some installation advice...

Drop them in a mug of boiling water to soften them (leave in for 3 minutes or so), THEN try pressing them in....

Thanks for the tip, I did consider heating them a bit with a heat gun but I was afraid they might melt or deform. I'm also going to order another bushing set, this time from Willcox, since theirs seem to be a GM Restoration product so maybe I'll have better results.

Well just as an update I ended up grinding the bushings down to get them
installed. Like, WAY down. To the point that I could practically see through them. Miraculously they did not shatter while I was pounding them into the switch plate (which, even after grinding was still necessary). My advice to anyone needing to do this would be to just buy repop plates with the bushings already installed, the extra money spent is worth the hassle.

Are you sure you've got the right bushings? I could only find the bushings that go into the T top, not the ones that go into the plate on the B pillar. The T top bushings do have a bigger outside diameter.

Yes, Willcox carries them and I think Zip does also. No matter the vendor, they are obviously the same piece and obviously too damn big

If you've got these ones then I think you have the wrong ones. I believe these are for the t-top not the plate.

You just might be right! But guess what - I made them work The repop switch plates come with the bushings already installed so that would be the better option
