Default Unknow orange wire

Hi All

I have 1975 Corvette Convertible I am in process of restauration.
In the last couple days, I spent some time to go over engine harness wiring.

I found one orange wire which I don't know where it should be plugged in or what is for.

Would you be able to guide me or tell me what this wire is for based on color and connector type.

Thx, Michal

Looks like the wire which SHOULD have a 30 amp in line fuse inserted and then goes to the HI speed blower circuit. Maybe a PO cut out the fuse (because it kept blowing?) and wired it directly. Not sure about that connector on the end of it....

Not sure about your '75 but the wiring diagram for my '73 only shows two orange wires under the hood - one for a fusible link at the horn relay (not what you are showing) and the other goes to the heater blower motor using a connector like the one in your photos. Mine does not have an inline fuse as 7T1vette described.

If you re-use that wire, check it over carefully. Looks like a burn mark on the insulation in one of the photos.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

DC

Hello Michal and welcome to the Forum. I have attached a pic of the high speed blower orange wire and in-line fuse from my '75 convertible. It feeds the blower relay and is located on the passenger side firewall.

green arrow = hi-speed blower wire
yellow arrow = blower relay
white/black thingee = fuse holder

Michal you didn't mention if you have A/C or not. This in-line fuse and relay was used on A/C equiped cars only. The connector you show is not the connector used in the in-line fuse

However, the attached 1975 wiring diagram indicates another orange wire connecting to the the starter motor. It is attached to the bulkhead wiring connector located on the firewall driver's side at position 20. It then is spliced to a black wire and spliced again to a red wire. The red wire connects to the starter. I hate it when they change colors! In the other direction it is connected to the ammeter and ultimately to the alternator. Please note the attached wiring diagram is for a non-A/C equiped '75. I will copy and post an A/C wiring diagram tonight.

DC3 mentioned that on his '73 there is an orange wire connected to the horn relay in the engine compartment. The horn relay for '75s is located by the fuse panel

Base upon the location of your wire, your orange wire could be part of this alternator/ammeter/starter motor circuit I mentioned above. Trace the wire back to the firewall and tell us what you find.

Good info to know as this explains why I didn't find that fuse. My '73 was originally a non-AC car.
