Default Interior color change

Ive been looking for a 68 or a 69 coupe for awhile now and when I find one that interests me the interior is a color that I don't like. Just curious as to how much it would be to change the interior color of a 68 or 69. Not me doing the work but professionally done. Just looking for a ballpark number. Thanks for any info

I would think you are looking at minimum of $5k. I just changed only carpets, door panels, a-pillars, visors, rear window trim, storage boxes and parts alone close to $2k doing the work myself.

If they are still making dye, you can get aerosol dye from corvette america that looks really good and doesnt crack. Then you just need $600 carpets

It has to be dye and not paint, the paint wont stick and it will peel right off

Or you could "dye" the trim pieces. Actually is is a flexible paint. I've used the SEM product with excellent results, but I think Corvette America has rebranded version.

You could probably do the whole interior for $2-300 including prep supplies if you did it yourself. Prep is critical to getting a good result.

You'll have to replace the carpet if you want a quality appearance (+~$350). Replace the seat covers too if you want a more durable finish (+ $??).

Depending on the car, this change may negatively affect resale value.

Before (I had already done the door panels)

After (couple of pieces were replaced, but they were all dyed to have the same sheen)

DOH! I type too slow. Do you really think carpets are $600? I seem to remember mine being closer to $350 at Willcox.

$325+ shipping. Maybe $600 with new padding/insulation. That way we'll both be right.

If you're going to write the check have at least $5K in the bank. If you want to do this right replace all the soft panels and re-dye all the hard panels, new carpet and seat covers.

Corvette America dye in the aerosol can is hit and miss from can to can on the shade or it was for some 65 saddle I was working with. Ended up going with a QT can and using a spray gun that worked out much better in the end.

You can easily recolor your plastic interior parts. You can recolor vinyl seat covers; but I would suggest that if the covers need repair, you buy the seat covers and recolor the other parts to match the seats. DO NOT use stock aerosol paint spray cans (or things labeled as "dye") for doing interior parts. Most of that stuff is just paint with a flex additive in it so it will flex with the parts. But paint will still peel, chip, etc and will fill in the surface grain of your parts. Good quality dye will not peel, chip, or fill in grain. You can recolor ANY color part with any other color in no more than two good coats.
I only use SEM liquid dye...mixed to match a factory interior color code, or to match a piece from the car. Shoot it with your own equipment or with a Pre-Val gas/bottle sprayer which you can purchase at the same auto body paint store where you get the dye. Clean the parts VERY WELL with detergent to get all the old Armor-All off them. Then rinse WELL to get rid of all detergent. Allow to dry completely then shoot two light covering coats of dye with 5 minutes or so between them. They will look like new parts. Next day coat them with some polymer protectant like Nu-Vinyl or Mequiar's protectant for Plastics. NEVER use a petroleum protectant again on your interior components.
Except for the time needed to remove the interior parts, clean them, shoot them, and reinstall, your total cost for dye and sprayer will be somewhere under $100. Add seat covers and carpet and you have a whole new interior for a few hundred $$. You can thank us later....
