Does anyone know the color the hood lock assemblies on each side of engine compartment should be on a 1969 car? Mine are currently rusty and was wondering if most owners leave them that way or paint them over. If you do paint them over, what color do you use and is this considered acceptable for maintaining an original appearance? I was also wondering about the windshield wiper limit switch bracket (i think that is what it is called), in the center of the windshield compartment area, which on my car is also rusty. Just trying to beautify my engine compartment. Thanks.
That's a question which Alan71 could easily answer and provide ample photos of the NCRS 'correct' color and coating material for them. Maybe someone else has some of his appropriate pics to aid you. Sorry I can't help.
Mine is a '68, but I believe '69 was the same. I followed the NCRS guide, Alan71 pics, and others the best I could. I've done some additional touch ups since this pic was taken. The '68-69 NCRS guide will help you a lot. I think ours is close if not spot on. Best, Paul
Edit: I thought I'd add a little additional context: I should have put more information in the post but I was in a hurry. I didn't use paint for the 'color' - they're supposed to be a 'natural' finish. I bead blasted the parts (which had been painted by a PO) in my bead cabinet, using very fine beads so they wouldn't pit the metal, etc. Then I coated the parts with high-temp satin clear so they would stay nice and not tarnish. I used painters tape over the rubber parts so they wouldn't get hit, and just cleaned them up. The same goes for the the female part of the locks that are on the hood. If you remove or move any of the locks, make sure you scribe where they are (assuming you had no binding issues) and use a hood lock alignment tool (available from any of the vendors), even if you put them exactly where they were, before you ever close the hood all the way. Have fun!!! Best, Paul

This is what I used, and the result. By the way, there are a number of warnings to be VERY careful when using this zinc chromate paint. Don't breathe it!!!!
