Does anyone have 275/45r18 all around because I had 275/60r15 and they fit fine but the new ones I bought are 275/40r18 and I don't like the fender gap. The tire shop said I can't put the 45 side walls because they rub but my question is why would they rub because the 275/45r18 are smaller then the 275/60r15 and have the same with, so why would they rub or us he just saying that so he doesn't have to deal with me. 1980 vett

The wheels are 18x9.5 with 4.75" Back spacing. No modifications required on my 78 car. These are with 275 40R 18's not sure what your render gap looks like. This is with the VB&P Street & slalom kit installed. ~ 27" fender to group measurement

I doubt that those would work on the front end of a '68-77 car. It wasn't until 1978 that the front wheel wells were opened up to allow larger tires. 235 width tires are all that will always fit on an earlier C3. Many will accept a 245; a few will accept a 255..rarely. The rocker panels were shortened starting in 1978 to allow the wider wheel opening.

Not saying yes or no... but i am saying to NEVER listen to the tire shop. They are THE worst. They'll sell you a drag race skinny to cover their own ***. So far i've found that if a tire 'expert' says 275 max, then go 3-4 sizes wider, and start from there. Do your own research, and measurements. There are a LOT ov guys here running 275's or wider on stock fendered Vettes.

First off.....if the guy at the tire shop doesn't have a grey beard......his knowledge of tire sizes and stance may be challenged....besides just being a tire shop guy. Worst person to ask.
Why not run a 245 in the front? I ma also 27" off the ground.....245/45/17 on the front and 275/40/18 on the rear.

I really like the wide look of 275s all around and I have the same rear tire as you but I have a bigger fender gap

Lower the car to 27" off the ground......trust me, you will never get the stance right by just playing with tire sizes.....too much gap in the wheelwell is usually always filled up with a bigger tire which makes the car sit like a truck. The 45 isn't going to give you the results you want I don't think.......but no pics so I could be wrong. What is your wheelwell height?
Get the stance correct first...tires are to expensive to try out IMHO and so visible to get it wrong......seen it too many times. The red 79' above from cagotzmann has been saved in my computer for years as an example of perfect stance......
You can do whatcha like by all means......but ride height to me is more important than tire size within reason....

After with smaller tires and new wheels 275/40r18 Before 275/60r15
See what you mean......but a 275/60/15 is a huge tire for a Vette in the front.......in 78' you could get a 255/60/15 stock and the wheel lip was trimmed a bit at the factory......those must rub on the frame like crazy....how they clear the fiberglass is a mystery.
Ho close is the 40 right now? You should be able to tell if the 45 fits by looking at how close your 40's fit and getting the diameter of the 45 in question. Personally.....I would lower this car. 2" in the front and 1" in the rear.....but that is just me.

I have had 255/60R15s on my 1975 for almost 30 years with no issues. 10 years with the stock Rally rims, 4" BS and almost 20 years with the current American Racing rims with 3.75" BS. ZERO issues.

evey since I bought the car I had no idea how the owner before got such large tires up front and they barely rubed the in side fender at lock but never the frame. It's like a blessing. But it look sicked with such a big tire and I want to keep that look. Also how would you lower it. I can't get lower bolts because it's already close to my wheel and any longer I would be afraid
