Two Random Question about a 76
My 76 has the carpet coming down in the rear around the light and from the top. It is just folding over. How was it attached? Was there trim at some point or was it tacked or glued?
My ash tray never stays closes it will slide half way open. How can I fix that?

No clue on the carpet but think there may be a spring for the tray lid/door

big plastic push pins hold up the carpet, 3 of them if my memory is correct.
Yes there is a spring on the ashtray door. perhaps take your console apart and investigate.

The carpet retainers are rubber, not plastic. They are no longer available from GM. They are being reproduced. Here is one source:

The holes that accept the retainers should still be present in your rear bulkhead panel. Here is a pic of 2 of the carpet retainers from my '75

There is no spring on the ashtray door. There are two long plastic slides that create resistance that hold he door up. You need to replace those.

across the tops of the pieces in mine were a row of #6 phillips screws. might have been second carpet set. but it worked good and was invisible. no glue to deal with either...
