Hello. I am looking for the correct emission decal for a 69 s.b. 350/350hp built in November. I thought it was # 3956682 Code CF but then I found a vendor that implied that was for build dates before 7/69. For cars built after that the decal is # 3970118 code DJ. The vendors sell the first decal, code CF and state that it's for the 69 year and make no mention of early or late in the year. So my question is which is correct for a late year L46. Thanks and take care.

Hi, just found your post. I too have a 69 L46 350/350, mine built in Oct 69.. I've owned it since Nov. 1970 and the decal was never monkeyed with. Now here's the strange twist, courtesy of GM. My decal has CF and it's a 3956682, BUT, the timing spec for the 350HP is 8 degrees BTDC and NOT the 4 degrees found on all of the reproduction tags out there. My 69 Chevelle L48 350/300 (which I ordered new and still have) has the SAME part number on the tag, and of course, the timing spec shown for the 350HP Corvette is 4 degrees.
So, GM made 2 versions of the decal, with the same CF code, and same part number 3956682. Decades ago I tried unsuccessfully to have Jim Osborne reproduce it, but he wanted my old decal and I wasn't willing to remove it from the car. I know from previous inquiries online there are others looking for the "later" decal. For anyone producing the earlier version, I would like to believe it is but a small editing job on the image file to change a 4 to an 8.
How many of us are out there looking for this ? Perhaps a place like ECS Automotive Concepts would be willing to do a run of these. They did accommodate me with a similar request for a correct (for my car) "Keep Your GM Car All GM" decal, modifying the part number and 2 character alpha code. I'd be willing to talk to them about this if there's some level of interest out there.
Interesting. I saw your post and I scrambled thru my pics to verify it. Mine does say 4 BTDC. I believe, although I cannot verify that it is a correct and original label. Sorry but…,,Ike
Thanks Ike. First time I've seen them side by side. I didn't know the formats were different. I doubt the 8 degree one is false, they are so uncommon. And, it looks "old enough" that it is, well, old.
And yours looks more accurate and legit than the repros out there. I think they are both legit.
Thanks for the response Viz. Might just be GMs foolishness. Both these cars were late into the production. Mine in October and the auction one was late October or early November. Could they just have started to run out of labels due to the extended 1969 production run? Could they have just produced more quickly or grab some from a different division?? Hmmmm
